Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a sleepy community on that part of the island of Montreal known as"the West Island. Many people unfamiliar with the word tend to think it's a separate island somewhere in the west of Montreal however, it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to everything from the city of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel is said to be born on the West Island. But it's not the case. Brugel was a young woman in Courtice Ontario just outside Oshawa. At the beginning of her life she hoped to become professional performer, however an unexpected growth spurt made it impossible. In an article published in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. After I became too big for my male partners I stopped. There are many dancers who make the move to acting. For Bruce, it was her drama teacher who encouraged her into this path. Teacher who recommended she try to find a role in school's annual play. Following a trial, she ended up as the leading lady of Anne of Green Gables. When she was awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. Through the years that followed, Brugel has been offered roles in over 60 shows on small and big screens. She attracted the most media attention after she was offered the role of Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian cast member in the season 1 of the show and was only seen occasionally.
